Another pub affair, this time a hungry horse going by the name of ‘The Trooper Potts’. Situated near to Reading FC’s Madejski stadium, I’ve found myself walking past, admiring the modern, open window layout. With Christmas approaching, the decorations were up, and I couldn’t resist going inside this time.
Cheese Beef Burger – I’ll be honest with you, this burger was very dry. I was pretty disappointed at just how dry it was. It’s almost like the burger was (over) cooked, then hung out to dry on a washing line in the basking sun. The bun was no better, crumbling in my hands and the sauce (even after I added extra) just did not save this poor burger from getting a very mediocre score.
I upgraded to sweet potato fries, and this did save my meal as a whole. I actually preferred them to the burger. They were lovely. Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, just how a sweet ‘tato chip should be. I also treated myself to a pretty cheap cider, but again, usual pub affair, you can’t go too wrong here.
It was fairly busy, and having been greeted on the door by a very friendly man, we were shown to our table. Maybe the introduction of allocated seating was designed to take this pub upmarket? Either way, the staff on the whole were very pleasant. Similar to my last post, you had to order at the bar, and it took no time at all getting our order in. The food arrived pretty quick (15-20 minutes) so that was top.
The Trooper Potts was a very modern, clean pub, with a bright interior (the building half covered in windows) so it was very comfortable to sit back and relax in. Their Christmas decorations had already been put up, so it looked a pretty sight with fairy lights lining the place. I imagine if you came here on Saturday, you might be in the midst of a pre-football game piss up, so choose your timing wisely.
It was pretty cheap, with my meal coming in at under £7, but I’m not even sure my burger was worth that. I’ve had burgers from a fast food van oozing more taste than this. Never the less, it’s a very affordable pub and I would definitely come back here – just for a pint me thinks.
ALL THE BURGER YOU COULD NEED.
